Mrs. Belmonte's Pre-K students were absolutely thrilled to get their hands dirty while planting zinnias and grass seeds, a hands-on activity that fostered both curiosity and early science skills. With smiles and intense focus, little fingers scooped rich, dark soil into cups, carefully sprinkling tiny seeds on top before gently covering them and offering a refreshing spray of water. The excitement was palpable as they learned that these simple ingredients, soil, water, and sunlight, are all that's needed to help their new green friends grow. While the quickly sprouting grass allowed the children to immediately observe growth and develop fine motor skills by giving their "grass heads" haircuts, the zinnias taught valuable lessons in patience, nurturing, and the wonder of watching a flower bloom. They also dove into making 2 different vibrant flower craft activities that came out beautiful!

When the biggest kids in our school work together with the littlest kids in our school, magic happens! In the celebration of spring, the 6th graders in Mr. Debler's class supported the Pre-K students in Ms. Sinclair's class in creating beautiful flower projects to decorate our school auditorium. They had a blast working together in organizing and creatively developing unique paper flowers and demonstrated kind, caring behavior towards one another throughout the activity. Way to go, kids!

April is AUTISM AWARENESS & ACCEPTANCE MONTH! Students were able to learn about accepting and including others. Students and faculty took part in bringing awareness by wearing blue throughout the month. Mr. Clark kicked off the month by making everyone feel included with Autism Awareness bracelets! Students in pre-K, kindergarten, and first grade wanted to include everyone encouraging every student to add a puzzle piece to our “Shaw Avenue Cares” bulletin board. Each student decorated a puzzle piece to highlight how we are all special and we all fit together!

Earth Day is April 22nd! Mrs. Belmonte's Pre-K students have been learning all about Earth Day and how we can help our Planet Earth! They know it is up to the people who live on this earth to take care of it! Some ways we have been learning is by reducing waste, reusing things, recycling paper, plastics, glass and cans. We also need to keep our earth clean and make it pretty by planting flowers and trees! We also made an art project of us holding the earth in our hands. "We've got the Whole World in our Hands!"
Every month, the Pre-K students get a "Family Project" to do at home with their families. April's Family project was to show a way they are taking care of the Earth! Great pictures have been sent to me of students, planting a vegetable garden, planting flowers and recycling!

Some of our classes recently had the opportunity to participate in an exciting Submerge Storytelling experience through BOCES! During this interactive program, students were “immersed” in a live story where they worked together to explore clues, solve problems, and help move the story forward.
This engaging experience supported literacy, critical thinking, and collaboration skills in a fun and memorable way. Our students truly enjoyed becoming part of the story and learning through hands-on exploration!
