Students at Clear Stream Avenue Elementary School in the Valley Stream District 30 held a virtual celebration for Black History Month and showed off their cultural pride through artwork.

More than a dozen colorful drawings by Global Leaders of Tomorrow represented various influential African American leaders and artists throughout history, and students shared facts about their unique cultural backgrounds. Drawings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. evoked themes of equality and civil rights by incorporating his most famous quotes. Other historic figures, such as Harriet Tubman and Jackie Robinson, were also acknowledged for their inspiration to our future global leaders. Some students showcased how their culture influenced the food they eat, such as a drawing of the Jamaican national fruit, the ackee.

The annual celebration is an important reminder to the diverse Clear Stream community to explore history from various perspectives and to celebrate the impact of contributions made by African Americans.
