Valley Stream District 30 — Parent Code of Conduct Plain-language summary for families

Introduction

VS30 is committed to a safe, orderly learning environment built on civility and respect. Harassment and discrimination are not tolerated on the basis of race, color, weight, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or sex. The Code applies to everyone on school property or at school functions.

5300.15 — Student Rights & Responsibilities

Student Rights

  • Equal participation in district activities without discrimination.
  • Be treated with dignity and respect by peers and staff.
  • Respectful expression of opinions (spoken or written).
  • Present your side of events before consequences.
  • Access to and explanations of school policies and rules.

Student Responsibilities

  • Help keep school safe, supportive, and orderly.
  • Work to keep school free of bullying and harassment.
  • Attend daily, on time, and prepared to learn.
5300.20 — Essential Partners (School, Families, DAC)

The Code sets behavior expectations and guides restorative responses so students learn positive behaviors and succeed academically.

  • Parents and staff partner to reinforce safety and respect.
  • The Dignity Act Coordinator (DAC) ensures bullying prevention and reporting.
5300.25 — Student Dress Code
  • Clothing must be clean, safe, and appropriate for learning.
  • No vulgar, obscene, or discriminatory language or imagery.
  • Footwear required; unsafe footwear prohibited.
5300.30 — Prohibited Student Conduct

Behaviors that disrupt learning or safety are not permitted.

  • Unsafe actions, disrespect, or insubordination.
  • Violence, threats, or property damage.
  • Bullying, discrimination, or harassment.
5300.35 — Reporting Violations
  • Students and staff must report violations immediately.
  • School administrators investigate fairly and promptly.
5300.40 — Disciplinary Penalties & Referrals

Discipline emphasizes learning, accountability, and restorative growth.

5300.45 — Alternative Instruction

Suspended students receive alternative instruction promptly.
