On the morning of Sept. 11, 2024, Clear Stream Avenue Elementary School in Valley Stream District 30 hosted a meaningful ceremony on the front lawn to commemorate Patriot Day and honor the lives lost in the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
Students, staff and faculty gathered together for the ceremony, which served as a powerful reminder of unity, remembrance and resilience.

The ceremony began with a group of sixth graders performing a heartfelt rendition of the national anthem. Principal John Singleton then addressed the crowd, reflecting on the significance of the day and the values of unity and community. "As we honor their memory, let’s think about the importance of standing united as a school and community, supporting each other, and always doing our best to show kindness,” Singleton said. “No matter how big or small, every kind act makes a difference.”

Following Principal Singleton’s remarks, the entire school participated in the Pledge of Allegiance, led by students and staff alike. The ceremony provided students with the opportunity to reflect on the importance of empathy, service and standing together as a united community.

On Sept. 3, Valley Stream 30 School District proudly welcomed back its Global Leaders of Tomorrow at Clear Stream, Forest Road and Shaw Avenue elementary schools to kick off the 2024-2025 academic year. This year, the district is embracing an exciting new theme: “The Rhythm is All Around Us,” which celebrates the arts in education and the creative energy that flows through every aspect of learning.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Roxanne Garcia-France, shared her excitement for the new year. "As I visited each school, I could feel the positive energy and enthusiasm to learn. The rhythm of education is alive in our classrooms, and we are eager for another outstanding year of growth and achievement.”

With a vibrant focus on the arts and creativity, Valley Stream 30 is ready for a year of inspiring students to find their own rhythm in both learning and life.

Forest Road Elementary School in Valley Stream District 30 welcomed Pre-K and kindergarten students and their families on Aug. 21 with a special storytelling event designed to promote literacy and build a strong sense of community within the school. The event featured an engaging introduction by the students' teachers, centered around the beloved children's book “Pete the Cat.”

The storytelling session brought the adventures of Pete the Cat to life, with activities that included acting out scenes from the story, identifying the main character, and participating in fun, physical movement games. Under the theme "Rhythm is all around us," students also created their own musical instruments inspired by “Pete the Cat.”

The event provided a warm and joyful introduction to the Forest Road School community, as students and their families embraced the new school year together. The combination of storytelling, interactive activities and music made for an enriching experience, leaving everyone excited for the academic journey ahead for these Global Leaders of Tomorrow.
