Valley Stream District 30 welcomed its newest staff members for new teacher orientation at the Washington Avenue Kindergarten Center from Aug. 23-24. Coordinated by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Jennifer Lewner and Human Resources Administrator Marcela Moran, the orientation period allowed the new staff members to get acclimated to the district.

On day one, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roxanne Garcia-France welcomed the new teachers, who included Aaminah Ahmad, Angela Benetti, Ceji Bridges, Mackenzie Brown, Allison Cortes, Samantha Feaser, Courtney Fitzpatrick, Grace Lee, Marie Loeffel, Shirley Montoya, Torianna Simpson O’Neal, Nicole Rodriguez-Cortes and Danielle Williams. They also heard from Assistant Superintendent for Business Brian Phillips, Director of Special Services Dr. Nicole Schimpf, Director of Technology Christopher Onorato and building principals and assistant principals.

The new staff broke into two groups and rotated between different training sessions. With building administrators, groups prepared for the upcoming school year by discussing topics such as culturally responsive classrooms, using data to drive literacy instruction and enhancing instruction with technology.
