Valley Stream 30 held its district-wide Turkey Trot on Nov. 17, challenging every student to run and add up their distance to simulate a team-driven “trot” to Beijing, China, site of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

Classes from Clear Stream Avenue, Forest Road and Shaw Avenue Elementary Schools ran up to 6,830 feet, mirroring the 6,830 miles between New York and Beijing. Students trotted along on their respective school’s field, using paper cups to count their number of laps. Each class logged their total distance.

Students trained for the occasion in their physical education classes, learning how to properly pace themselves as they ran the course. They also discussed how organized runs are popular ways to promote good causes.
