An Artistic Trip to Mexico

Three Students Holding Their Decorative Sun Design Artwork thumbnail206490
Throughout the month of October, kindergartners in Valley Stream 30’s Shaw Avenue School took an imaginary journey to Mexico as part of Paul Farinacci’s art class. Students read Laurie Krebs and Christopher Corr’s book, “Off to Mexico” and held a discussion of the traditions and art of Mexico. The young artists focused on their use of bright colors, geometric shapes like circles and triangles, and patterns using straight, curved and wavy lines to create their decorative sun designs. Students in Mrs. Price and Mrs. Friscia's class loved learning about Mexico and using a crayon resist technique, which is the art of painting over crayon, for their hands-on project.
