Students and staff at from Clear Stream Avenue, Forest Road and Shaw Avenue elementary schools were welcomed back to school on Sept. 2.

Marking a first for the district, prekindergarten students were welcomed into the Valley Stream District 30 family! Funded through a state grant and local funding, the UPK classes will engage in developmentally appropriate activities to help prepare them for kindergarten. The students will focus on reading readiness and early literacy development, math skills, social and self-help skills, science lessons and discovery, large and fine motor activities, special enrichment and exposure to both fiction and non-fiction literature.

A new school year also brings with it a new theme for the Valley Stream District 30 students and staff. The 2021-2022 school year will focus on kinesthetic learning and activities designed to engage students through its Let’s Move Again! theme.

As he moved through the hallways welcoming students back to their classrooms, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Stirling reminded students to “be kind, try your hardest and have the best year.”
