William Sherman

William Sherman was born in Lanschestor Ohio on February 8, 1820. William Tecumseh Sherman was educated in a local academy. Then he was trained at the United States Military Academy. During the years of 1836 and 1840 William became a second lieutenant. He was very happy about the job that he had just gotten. Later Sherman was posted to the the third Cavalry in Florida. Then he was promoted to first lieutenant in November of 1841.
William Sherman served in California during the Mexican war. Later in September, 1850 he became Captain. He was told he had to go to St. Louis and New Orleans to do his job as Captain. In 1859 William became superintendent of the Military College in Alexandria, Louisiana. William was promoted as Colonel in May 1861. In 1862 William became a major General of volunteers. In April 1862 Sherman commanded the district of Memphis. He also commanded the Vicksburg expedition.
In July 1866 Sherman was promoted to Lieutenant General. Also in 1866-1869 William was promoted to General. On March 8, 1869 William was commanding the General of the United States Army. On February 14, 1891 it was a very sad moment when William died of a severe heart attack on February14, 1891.
