Robert E. Lee

Robert E. Lee was born a little over one hundred ninety-four years ago on January 19th in the year 1807. His birthplace was in Westmoreland, Virginia. At that time, the family was suffering from money problems, which caused them to move to Alexandria. He applied to different schools enabling him to harness the power of learning. Later his father died in 1811. Now he had more responsibilities to his mother and his family. He entered West Point Military School in 1825 and graduated in 1829. He married Mary Ann Randolph Curtis on June 30, 1831. He and his wife had seven children together. He joined General John E. Wools' army in Texas in 1846. After he resigned he went back to West Point and became the superintendent in 1852. June 1, 1862 Robert E. Lee became the commander of the Northern Virginia Army. In 1865 he became the commander and chief of all the confederal forces. He was in a war with the opposing military being three times the size of his army and they had at least 100 times more ammunition but Lee strategic expertise help him to become the victor. Now, he had the reputation of being an exceptional general in war. Lee's legendary command ended in Appomatoxx Virginia in april 1865. Years later he died on October 12, 1870. Indeed Robert E. Lee had a very meaningful and dedicated life on the battle field.
