Reference Resources

The Fact Monster (tm) site is unique in combining essential reference materials, fun facts and features, and individualized homework help for kids. From the solar system to the world economy to the latest on Harry Potter, Fact Monster has the information kids are seeking, all in one easy-to-use, searchable site. InfoPlease.com (tm) offers an additional site loaded with statistics, facts, and historical records. Information Please places the resources of an entire reference information center at your fingertips.

Little Explorer (tm)Little Explorers Picture Dictionary with links is for young children learning to read. This dictionary is filled with pictures and colors. Select a letter and learn words that begin with that letter.

 

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has an online collection of about 3,500 objects. This site allows access to the collection and special exhibitions. The Explore and Learn link includes a Timeline of Art History.

 

This site has many content specific encyclopedias as well as links to Power To Learn (tm)several online newspapers including the New York Times and Newsday.

 

Whitehousekids.gov is an educational opportunity for young Americans to learn about the White House and the President through fun and exciting features. The themes of reading, making good choices (such as going to school) and dreaming about the future are woven into the site's content through the personification of the President's pets and animals.

Links for Parents

Parent's Guide to the Internet written by the United States Department of Education is intended to help parents--regardless of their level of technological know-how--make use of the on-line world as an important educational tool. The guide cuts through the overwhelming amount of consumer information to give parents an introduction to the Internet and how to navigate it. The guide suggests how parents can allow their children to tap into the wonders of the Internet while safeguarding them from its potential hazards.

FamilyResource.com This is a complete parent resource. It covers Lifestyles, Relationships, Parenting, Health and Finance.

 

New York University Child Study Center's multi-disciplinary team of professionals has put together a very useful site. It covers almost any topic of interest to families.

 

Parents, this site reviews and rates educational software based on a carefully developed set of criteria. Their reviews are written by teams that include educators, parents, and children from across the United States. This site also presents timely investigative reports and interviews. Feature stories have ranged from research on the nationwide decline of test scores on reading exams to the impact of class sizes.
