Technology

In our long range Technology Plan, Valley Stream District 30 recognizesTechnology the need for its students to be skillful, literate users of electronic technology. This need is being met by the Board of Education's commitment to provide computer access and instruction for all children in grades K-6.

Each Valley Stream District 30 school has at least one fully networked computer technology lab which can accommodate an entire class. Each classroom is connected to the district wide area network (WAN). All administrative offices and classrooms all share high speed T-1 access to the Internet. Currently, Valley Stream 30 is using the Macintosh computer platform for our instructional programs.

Students are provided with many opportunities to develop and demonstrate a range of computer skills and applications. Classroom instructional activities, such as keyboarding, research and writing projects, tee-shirt printing, which involves digital imaging Technologyand graphics, book publishing and Internet collaboration are just a few of many fun things we do digitally in our schools. AppleWorks, Excel and PowerPoint are two of our major software tools taught in the upper grades.

Carefully filtered and monitored Internet access is available in all our labs and classrooms. Our schools also use Internet video streaming to provide structured educational content. These resources are available for teachers to use with their students as engaging and interactive educational tools.

Please be sure to take a look at District 30 “WebWorks”. It features a wide variety of instructional web sites which have been reviewed by the district's technology staff. We hope students and parents will find these educational resources fun to use and helpful.
