Principal's Message

Welcome to Shaw Avenue!

I am thrilled and honored to serve as Shaw Avenue’s principal. Shaw Avenue’s talented students, knowledgeable faculty and staff, active and supportive parents and community members create a joyful learning environment for our young scholars to reach their summits of excellence.

At Shaw Avenue, we strive to meet the needs of the whole child by guiding our students’ development of emotional and social skills, engaging them in challenging curriculum, and encouraging them to participate in a myriad of enrichment and co-curricular activities. As Plutarch stated, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited.”  Our students embark on a quest for learning and discover their genius everyday with a smile.

We expect our students to be “their very best” by putting forth effort and working hard at everything they do. We celebrate and cherish our diverse talents and uniqueness. We encourage our students to challenge themselves to go beyond what they think they can achieve. Our students are compelled to take ownership of their own learning by setting their own intellectual, social, and emotional goals. Our PBIS mantra “SCoRR” (Safe. Citizens. Responsible. Respectful.) encourages our students to be responsible, respectful citizens who create a safe environment for themselves and others.

We extend a special welcome to our new families: You are part of a safe, warm, and caring school community with a rigorous curriculum.  We encourage you to become an active participant in our school community by joining the PTA, volunteering at school events, chaperoning class trips, or supporting a fundraiser. To our returning parents: Thank you for your continued support as we strive to excel everyday. To our teachers: We are thankful for your dedication to our children and the continued refinement of your craft.  We are truly fortunate to have such caring and experienced teachers leading the learning at our school.  

The valued partnership between our teachers, parents, and community members create an exemplary learning community that soars!  Indeed it is fitting to say at Shaw Avenue, “We strive for the best; we don’t settle for less!”
